Top advisers to President Donald Trump declined three times on Saturday to rebut claims from Russian officials that Trump had accepted their denials of alleged Russian interference in the US election.
More broadly, concerns about trade and its impact on workers figured large in the 2016 U.S. presidential election and in Britain's referendum vote to leave the European Union, a free-trade bloc.
The two sides also agreed to create what Trump described in a tweet as "an impenetrable Cyber Security unit" to ensure that "election hacking, & many other negative things, will be guarded".
Mr Tillerson, meanwhile, said the two men had had a "robust" discussion on the issue during the two hour and 15 minute meeting, and that Mr Trump had pressed the Russian leader on several occasions.
The G20 leaders also reaffirmed their committed to "counter migrant smuggling and human trafficking" as well as their determination to "take action against people smugglers and traffickers".
The president refused to publicly give the kind of condemnation that his staff said he delivered to Russian President Vladimir Putin during a private meeting Friday.
Russian President Vladimir Putin sat next to at least one Trump during the Group of 20 Summit dinner: Melania.
Trump's message on Russia remains the most convoluted, despite his advisers' efforts to put to rest questions about his views on Moscow's election meddling.
It's not to be, though.
Trump has said previously he believes Russia likely was involved in election hacking, but that other countries were as well. "In any case, it's better to ask him how he reacted". "De-escalation is a euphemism for zones of responsibility, where the different sides will agree which power is responsible for which part of the country".
"China was in a good place at G20, with reasonable policies", said Jin Canrong of the School of International Studies at the Renmin University of China, who has advised the government on diplomatic matters. It also came as a surprise to Podesta, who was driving across the US on vacation with his wife. It is one of the most bizarre propositions that we have ever heard of.
US President Donald Trump wants to work "constructively" with Russia. "President Putin denied such involvement, as I think he has in the past". That meant a first section with a broad pledge to fight climate change in general; a separate paragraph carved out that acknowledged the U.S. did not support the Paris deal; and a third paragraph in which the other 19 members reaffirmed their support for the deal.
President Trump has again launched scathing attacks at media.
Trump Jr. said he was asked by an unnamed acquaintance to attend what he described as a "short introductory meeting" about a disbanded program that used to allow U.S. citizens to adopt Russian children. Assad's forces would not be excluded from the de-escalation zones being discussed and would be allowed to conduct operations against "terrorists, " she said.
"It may take longer than I like, it may take longer than you'd like. but there will be success in the end, one way or the other", he said. Trump did, however, win a concession in the final summit communique on the need to promote what he calls "fair" trade. I think he took note of that and agreed.
Just behind the tightly secured G20 summit venue, charred road barricades, trashed shops and stones, debris and shattered glass bore testimony to an anarchic night, when police commandoes with semi-automatic weapons detained militants who hurled rocks from rooftops.
"This is a very important step forward".
Still, the faultlines remain in the tricky China-United States relationship.
