In Six Months: Trump to End DACA

The announcement that President Donald Trump may end DACA is prompting mixed reaction from lawmakers, and one person who is definitely not on board is U.S. Senator Bob Casey.

Republican officials from nine states are also threatening to sue the Trump administration if he doesn't get rid of DACA by September 15. But business leaders say immigrants make important economic contributions and that ending the program would hit economic growth and tax revenue.

An end to the program would rip families apart, Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) said. The move would come with a six-month delay though, presumably giving enough time to allow Congress to save the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or at least some part of it. The government is facing lawsuits from ten different states over the DACA program.

"Since the inauguration because we've been hearing rhetoric and we've been hearing negative comments and we've been seeing executive orders and the DACA recipients have just been waiting for that to filter down to them".

Roy Lopez has helped a number of DACA students become successful college graduates. "I ask Mayor Emanuel to take the necessary steps to ensure no DACA recipient hired by the City of Chicago loses their job as a result of President Trump's termination of DACA".

To 'Justice for our Neighbors' board member, Karen Jones, the immigration system is broken. The decision to end DACA is consistent with that goal.

The DACA, which was passed under the Obama administration in 2012, grants temporary residency and work privileges to those who entered the country before their 16th birthday.

"If we're going to have a country of laws", added DelBacco, "then we need to have a country of all laws".
